When my cell phone rang at 6:45 PM on that Friday evening back in 2015, the caller ID displayed: our President and CEO at Blue Bell. To be getting a call on a Friday night indicated that something was out of the ordinary at best. Good news was generally saved for Monday, so even before I answered, my imagination immediately went into overdrive.
In those initial few seconds, my thoughts went from the possibility that his Dad, Ed Kruse, and leader of our company for so many years, had fallen ill to there being something wrong at the plant.
Uncertainty of the unknown can cause immediate anxiety, which tends to lead to fear. Emotions like this can also have a way of taking over when you are least prepared, and nothing had prepared me for what was next……..
What started out as a college term paper opened the door to an amazing 43-year career at Blue Bell Creameries for Ricky Dickson.
